Call for Defense and Security Analysts

“HERMES” Institute of International Affairs, Security & Geoeconomy is looking for four (4) postgraduate volunteers to work on an annual defense and security project. The post will be available from May 15th, 2024 for a period of one (1) year. 


Purpose of the Role


This position is offering a great learning opportunity to gain valuable experience in working in a high demanding defense and security project. The defense and security analyst will become a member of a small, coherent and flexible team which will contribute in the production of a special publication. The volunteer will support the implementation of the project by collecting data from primary sources, participating in advocacy meetings with defense and security institutions and officials, analyzing data from primary and secondary sources, and contributing in the writing of the final product. 


Responsibilities


  • Collection of data from primary sources.
  • Meetings and interviews with officials of the defense and security sector.
  • ​Analysis and classification of data.
  • Conflict analysis.
  • Strategic and operational military assessments.
  • Writing of research essays.
  • Participation in coordination meetings.
  • Support in the preparation of the final product (publication).
  • Contribution in events (conference, roundtables etc).


Qualifications


  • Postgraduate degree in the field of International Relations, Security – Strategic – Defense - War Studies, Political Science, or a related field. 
  • Speaking and writing fluently (C2 level) in English (working language).
  • Working experience in defense and security sector is highly desirable.
  • Good speaking and writing (B2 level) of Southeastern Europe languages is desirable.
  • Teamwork mentality, writing skills, and intellectual qualifications are highly desirable.
